I cannot properly express how spectacular Kasugaen Asatsuyu Sencha is. The aroma this tea produces once water is poured onto is divine. After 70 seconds at 65°c, it takes on what I think is the greenest, most vivid green colour available on Nio Teas. There’s a specific taste to it that I can’t quite describe. Tea leaves are automatically more delicate looking. Also smells fruity and bright. So the lower brewing temp makes a lot of sense. 5 grams, 60℃, 60 seconds. Infusion 1: beautiful glow in the liquor. Gentle but assertive attack, with nice high notes. This is a lovely tea. Grassy. This tea Hojicha is one that I was especially eager to sample, as I had never had one before. This is a roasted green tea, however they only use the stems and not the leaves, which produces a very low caffeine tea. It was a very thick, sweet, roasty tea and very reminiscent of a roasted Tie Guan Yin or Tie Louhan in every olfactory aspect. The first infusion was unlike that of other gyokuros I've tasted. It reminded me a bit of an autumnal squash soup: sweet, savoury, nutty and, dare I say it, even a bit malty. The first infusion goes straight to neon. Liquor gets stopped mid-flow, as typical of senchas. Very full-bodied with complex notes. Immediate winner. There's a lot going on here.
