I'm a newbie to hammocking. I'm 66 years old, 5' 11" and 186 lbs. I'm a side sleeper, don't like shoulder confinement, and have arthritic hips and back. Just rode nearly 15,000 km (9,000 miles) on a two-month motorcycle trip across the USA, camping most nights in the Haven Safari — and it crushed it. Easy setup (even in rain), bone-dry inside, and super comfortable for a side sleeper like me. Even in parks where I couldn’t hang it from trees (Joshua Tree, Redwoods), the true-level air mattress kept it quite comfortable on the ground. My only regret? Not getting the patterned rainfly. It was a Friday- it was about 5 o’clock when I showed up on site. It took about 15 minutes to set the Original Haven on the ground. When camping, I have slept on the ground, in a tent, in a hammock and on a cot. I received the Haven XL and set it up in the back yard to get the feel for setup and variations. Easy to set up. Had my first night in this amazing tent/hammock! I’ve researched this company for about a year and it lived up to the reputation. Amazing comfort level. The only reason I didn’t sleep through the night was temperature- and that’s my issue, not Havens. I’ll bring a warmer bag next time. I recently upgraded with the Safari True Level Pad and the insulated pad cover. Finally I am 100% happy with the Haven Safari. The difference in comfort from the original pad is worth the upgrade, it holds air much better and is a lot quieter with the pad cover. My camping opportunities are limited right now since becoming a full time care-giver for my mom, but I can hang the Safari on my porch and sleep outside anytime....it's that comfortable. This pad is amazing in the fact that it reinforces the entire Haven lay flat system. I bought both the hammock tent and pad combo system for a motorcycling trip across the back country in Oregon. I tried out this tent and spent the night in it, and honestly, it was a perfect experience. Every detail, from the quality of the tent itself to the mattress and the built-in lighting, was really impressive. I also used the additional strap that you hang between two trees—no knots needed, you just pull it tight and it holds. Overall, the Spectre tent has been a wonderfully comfortable camping experience with the little experience I’ve had with it.
