I don't know how "scientifically effective" these filters are but I can say that I took a standard pipe-cleaner, folded it into thirds, wound it together, and sewed it into the top of the mask so I could get a tight fit at the nose (like my n95 mask). And when I wore my mask today I could feel resistance when I was breathing in while talking so there's definitely some barrier protection!

I have a two strand and just received this 5 strand braid. The quality is great however, this time around, the 5 strand braid was shipped in a thin box and a bubble wrap priority mail envelope. When I opened the envelope, the box was crushed and the braid is folded weird now because it ended up being twisting from being squished so it doesn’t sit flat. I’m hoping it will end up laying flat over time!
