This fire rope was a huge let-down. In perfect conditions, it took 15 minutes with the ferro rod to start a fire. It was fascinating to watch live sparks go out on a nest of frayed rope. My buddy's packed dryer lint caught on fire faster and more reliably than this.
Once it was lit, the rope burned well. I might try the fire plugs instead, but this continues to under-perform when I need it, either backpacking or at home.

These work great! The only downside is in the heat (have not used them when it's decent weather) the coating on them melts onto your hands. Nothing a little water can't fix though. After splitting and fluffing these, they made it very easy to get the fire going.
