Thankfully I haven't had to use my Birdie but I do love the colors. :) My concern is that the arena that hosts a major NBA team in my city won't allow Birdie through the security. I bought this for my daughter. It is light weight and easy to travel with. She traveled via plane with no troubles. Thankfully she has not had to use it yet. I really loved the Birdie and it gave me peace of mind when working late and running alone. Unfortunately I went running the other night and the carabiner must have broken or slipped because it completely fell off of my waist-bag mid-run. I'm super disappointed since it isn't a cheap item. Make sure to use the key ring/ keychain attachment for extra security.

My daughter wanted pepper spray and I let her know that pepper spray can work against you. So a friend of mine had just bought the Birdie and showed it to me. I ordered one for my daughter and one for me. We practiced pulling the plug out together so we would be prepared. I walk to work in the dark every morning and I carry this in my hand as I walk. I bought this item because I am a grad student in Seattle and bike alone at night a lot. The device is pretty loud. Startled my boyfriend when I tested it which is really the effect I’m looking for. Just need an element of surprise so I can escape if I’m in a bad situation. The first one I had did fall on my bike so be careful to make sure it’s in a safe place.

It does what it says. Tested it outside with the speaker covered. Seems pretty loud. It looks cute. I leave it dangling from my purse strap. The keychain that came with it is so cute but too long and then it flops around. You have to pull pretty hard but not too hard. I also taught my 5-year-old daughter how to use it.
