VERY happy with the cyc photon I fitted to my Jamis renagade S3 gravel bike with 10x2 gearing . The torque sensing is as instant and progressive as I hoped it would be . I've set the power levels at 150 , 300and 450 w . That's legal in NSW I believe . I chose the EPAC version of the Photon to keep me safe from the law while still having a decent amount of torque available for off road riding. Bought a new Marin Stinson 2 bike, mounted the photon motor and the 52v 20ah battery, kit is really simple to install. I like the SW102 display, small and tidy, still gives plenty of info and I can always use the phone app for more info. I did fit two extra rivnuts to compliment the two bottle cage mounts on the down tube for the battery mount. This is my third Photon upgrade over the last 12 months, so I am obviously very happy with the product and level of support from Cap Rouge. The previous two were MTBs for off-road use but this one is primarily a bike path and road cruiser/commuter. When paired with a TSDZ2 Tongsheng motor (750W), stock firmware and VLCD5 display, I get 100km riding range from this battery on the lowest pedal assistance setting (mostly). I rode the same, mostly flat(ish) 25km route over 4 days to get to this total. The installation was very straightforward, the downloaded manual is easy to follow. The hardest part is probably finding a neat way to run the cables. I fitted a CYC Photon kit to a Surly Krampus (with 29x3” tyres) and couldn’t be happier with the result! Reasonably easy to install and the CYC app is very easy to use. Some good resources on YouTube to help. The motor is quieter than the Bosch CX Gen 3 on my Focus and delivers the power in a similarly smooth, progressive way. I have had just the single opportunity to take out my freshly built hardtail with the CYC X1 Pro 3 and found the experience to be astonishing (this is my first experience with an ebike and came as something of a shock that the mountains were suddenly flat). After four hours of trail riding involving steep, long, muddy hills, the 52v / 15ah / 780wh battery still had plenty of juice. Too early to report on the latest version of a Tong Cheng Motor but I would like to give a thumbs up approval to the 850C Display that was shipped with the Conversion Kit although the Cap Rouge User Manual for that particular display doesn't appear to have kept pace. The display received comes with a MODE button on the remote and has the "Modern" display rather than the "Classic" display featured in the User Manual. A little confusing. The Photon Gen 2 from Cap Rouge was easy to install with the right tools, the motor is quiet, smooth & very powerful straight out of the box without needing to make any settings changes, it eats uphill rock gardens for breakfast in mid power level 3, the chain line is straight, the gear changes are smooth, I'm totally satisfied with the Photon Gen 2, I keep my torque wrench & hex socket on the porch table, to sinch the cranks up to 55nm before each ride as they can loosen, buy a torque wrench & ...
