These boots do come wrapped in plastic and do have a strong scent. All the boots come in this way, but they air out quickly. I did add a foam insert because I like to walk on clouds. This boot has become my hands-down favorite of all my 70+ pairs of boots. I love how slimming it is on the leg. I have a European size 40, I ordered 9.5, they are a little loose, but not too much, I like it that way, you can put a warmer sock inside.
