The Elex was a nice upgrade over the HD 6XX although the HD 6XX mids are still undefeated you get a lot more bass and quite a bit more bass boom. You get unveiled trouble, it's not bright but it's not veiled like the 6XX or 600s are. On top of that the mids are still really good maybe not quite as good as the 6xx but still very good. I bought this DAC to pair with a Singxer SA-1. I upgraded from a JDS labs stack. The DAC is more or less an upgrade over the JDS by having more features, more connectivity, and better build quality. I bought these headphones based on reading many reviews and I couldn't be happier. My chain is Win11 Musicbee playing FLAC -> Schiit Bifrost 2 OG -> Schiit Lyr 3. It’s incredible what a great deal these headphones are! With the stock pads, they have a slightly warm tonality, without lacking in the highs. Swapping the Utopia pads onto them brings up the mids and adds some nice presence to the vocals, which I really enjoy, though if you’re sensitive you may find it a bit shouty. My thoughts on the Dan Clark Noire X. I really like this headphone! It's such a huge step above any closed back I've had. (rightfully so for the price) However, I do hear it slightly lacking in liveliness. Mainly so in live recordings. It is what I would expect from a closed back planar though. Comparing it to the Audeze Maxwell, it sounds much more alive. Comparing it to the Arya Organic, it does sound a touch more muted.
