I was able to mount my retirement badge onto the backing insert with some hot glue since it does not have a pin. I have another badge from when I was active duty that does have a pin back and it also easily fit. I was able to trim the opening to my badge shape with a pencil and a razor blade. I really like being able to look at my retirement badge more often. Good times!
