As a former wildland fire guy in British Columbia I very much appreciate what Howl has done. Neck deep in campfire bans all over the Province I can rely on my Howl to keep me warm in difficult conditions. It has been about a month that I have been using the Howl Campfire and it does deliver what it claims. Super excited to have the Howl when we were camping! The flames are pleasing to watch and the heat that radiates from the barcoal kept our group of six cozy while we chatted into the night. We didn't have to haul wood, keep the fire going and use up our water supply to put the fire out. Also easy peasy to have a morning fire too. We are so fortunate to have a real campfire where no campfires are allowed.

Considering that the only bias you can bring to your first encounter with a Howl is based on a Firecan or bigbox propane pit it really is an incomparable experience. The TLDR for me is that it’s actually warm. Broiling even. I didn’t time it, but I’m pretty dang sure futzing with the a flame level got me much better than 6.5 hours on my first tank. Absolutely awesome firepit. Punches out heat once the tubes start to glow and gets you warm in no time. I do have an issue with the hose though. The regulator on it is very sticky and seems it’s not working well, have to crank back and forth several times before it releases and then allows propane through.

I just got mine today and fired it up. It was so interesting I ran it again after dark to watch the barcoal part better as it heated. It is impressive, especially the infrared tube design and operation. As a mechanical engineer who focused on thermal fluids, it is really fun to see and feel this in action. I had a great conversation with my high school son about what is happening there and the induced airflow and balancing included in the design. Looking forward to much use with it.

Howl is a complete game-changer for outdoor camping and keeping you warm — I’ve used it for hunting all season long (snow and rain), allowing us to get warm while making dinner out of the truck. As it warms up after a few minutes, it puts out some serious heat. We've also used it at the house for roasting marshmallows with the kids. No smoke, all the heat. It's nice to not have to worry about wood. Also, using the strap allows you to secure it to the propane tank while in transport. 🔥

I brought this campfire to a Vanlife meetup and it was the biggest hit! We had a warm, welcoming spot for everyone to come hang out and it was perfect for chilly desert nights in New Mexico. Fast and easy campfire that goes out when you want it to, and no smoke in your eyes while you stay nice and warm. Great improvement from the wasted propane going up in flames on my old rio rings.. The Barcoal is the secret to perfect warming. It looks something like a jet engine when it’s at full operating temp. Very impressive engineering. Now, get the legs to fold and it fits where I want it in my truck under the bed platform. No real complaints at all. This will be coming with me everywhere from river trips to car camping. Next up, marshmallows. I’m guessing it does a good job at that too.

It feels like a real fire! In flame only mode, it feels like a propane fire. (no warmth, lame) Then with the radiant heat turned on. It becomes immediately apparent how much better this unit is than a regular propane fire. It spits out radiant heat just like a real fire! Love it!
