Excellent tea. Dry leaves are a beautiful green and silver, very fresh looking,and have a lovely dark green scent with a touch of pleasant smokiness. The tea soup is a pleasant gold and has a crisp minerality. The bitterness is not strong for the region and in good balance with the herbal flavors and light astringency. There is a good amount of mouth feel, and tingling and flavor last long after the session is over. There is a lovely fragrance lingering in the cup, but not so much in the pitcher...

Herbaceous, green forest, and what I suspect is often described as “animal” or “musky”, which to me is like savory greens (as opposed to aromatic green scent/flavor). With the rinsed leaves, more of the same but with more intensity and nuance. A pleasure for the nose. It doesn’t take long to brew up nice and strong. Easy going, tasty sheng with light-medium intensity minerality, fresh green herbaceous scents and flavors. The bitterness (say, compared to the Menghai teas) is nicely round, integrated, and noticeable on the sides of the tongue, while sweetness and greens dominate on the top. And there’s a delightful but faint floral flavor note that I haven’t noticed yet in other shengs from Farmerleaf, and which is also present in the lovely fragrance lingering in the cha hei. 9g tea leaves, 150ml steeps. Dry leaves are light green herbaceous aroma. The rinsed leaves bring out more intensity and some nice hoppy bitterness scent. First steep is light and welcoming, but has all the elements you’d expect from this region: balanced minerality and luscious green flavors. I've had a couple of weeks with this tea and we have become good friends🌞 A very fragrant tea with dry leaf and strongly so when first wet. Pleasent sweetness with a subtle taste of bitter tannins, just an undertone not overpowering. Mouth feel is on the thicker side for me and a very calming effect I have found. Very good if you want a relaxing session. Not a fussy tea, although I keep the infusions below 30 seconds, I think it will respond well to however you like to brew in your gaiwan/teapot...

Very unique tasting sheng. I have not heard of Fa Zhan He area before ordering this tea. I'm not a puerh expert guru or anything like that, but I have tried a couple hundred young raw puerhs throughout my tea journey, and despite this, I feel this tea has a distinct and unique profile from a lot of other sheng. I've tried four farmer leaf sheng teas so far, and they are all very elegant, structured, and have a common style. This one is the Gua Feng Zhai, YiWu at the Laotian border. The dry scent is green, herbal, hoppy, and inviting. The wet scent is the same, but subdued. This tea shines in two ways: the lingering mouth feel and the aforementioned structure and elegance. February 24, 2026. Beautiful day for tea (or anything)! Dry leaves are handsome and have a nice fresh sheng puerh scent. Milder dry scent than some of the other Farmerleaf teas. The dominant flavors are initially classic sheng bitterness and classic sheng vegetal (“spinach-y”), with the bitterness dominating in the early steeps but achieving a very nice balance by the third steep. The fragrance is pretty basic—nothing particularly stands out, but it does have the familiar floral scent common in most young sheng. The first infusion reveals a Yiwu sweetness (though a Jinggu tea), accompanied by a soft mouthfeel and medium-thick texture. From the second brew, the huigan shows up and continues to build throughout the session. The aftertaste is delightful, with notes of stone fruit and flowers lingering pleasantly. This is my first Puer from farmerleaf and it’s delicious! The dry leaf is very fragrant, smelling like a cool fern forest and apricots. Wet leaf smells similar to dry but more intense. The tasting notes I’m getting are: some intensity in the early steeps, with some cool fern forest, apricots, freshly shredded tree bark, minerality, mint, some florals, good huigan. The mouthfeel is intense early on, leading to refreshing, cooling, and juicy on later steeps. It makes me feel happy and energized...

9g/170ml. My experience is pretty much the same as the currently posted reviews and the website description. In a nutshell, an excellent price to value and a quality daily drinker. It is fun to drink, and at the price I paid for the cake, I can brew it strong like I prefer without hesitation. It is not a weak tea though. A lovely gentle tea that stands up to multiple brews. It is quite an "easy" tea, not sensitive to brewing time. My favorite way to brew it is to break off a small "chunk" and not break up the layers - they will gradually unfold as you steep them over and over, so always exposing fresh leaf surface. Very pleasant tea. For me reminiscent of Gooseberry and Heather Honey on the nose. Sweet cinnamon and a touch of cologne and tobacco to the taste. A pleasant undertone of slight bitterness and a taste that lingers. I enjoy short 30 second infusions, my preferred method . Very nice. Evolving aromas : from wild flowers in early brews, to nutty sweet white chocolate in later brews. But with this nice aromas, we also get a strong « classic taste » with vegetal bitterness, subtle tabaco, leather, and animal taste.
