Customer photo review of Spring 2025 Ba Ka Noy+1

Excellent tea. Dry leaves are a beautiful green and silver, very fresh looking, and have a lovely dark green scent with a touch of pleasant smokiness. The tea soup is a pleasant gold and has a crisp minerality. The bitterness is not strong for the region and in good balance with the herbal flavors and light astringency. There is a good amount of mouth feel, and tingling and flavor last long after the session is over. There is a lovely fragrance lingering in the cup, but not so much in the pitcher...

The relaxing body feel hits right away, this is a powerful meditative tea. Soft mouthfeel, very low bitterness, and a wonderful fragrant aroma, reminds me of being in a forest. Nice huigan coats the back of my throat.

The description of this tea is spot on. I was able to remember a tea I had tried and loved from months ago, one that I didn’t know the origin, based on this description: unique bitterness on the roof of the mouth, and high-pitched fragrance. To me, it is an almost prickly sensation in my mouth, with a peach aftertaste. The aftertaste stays a long time. The body feel is light and bubbly, focused and happy. Thank you Farmerleaf for this wonderful tea, as well as the illuminating descriptions.

(10g/150ml) Dry leaves smell amazing. Herbaceous, green forest, and what I suspect is often described as “animal” or “musky”, which to me is like savory greens (as opposed to aromatic green scent/flavor). With the rinsed leaves, more of the same but with more intensity and nuance. A pleasure for the nose. It doesn’t take long to brew up nice and strong. First steep was on a par with the 2nd or 3rd of most shengs. The flavor profile is pretty much exactly as described on the Farmerleaf website. I...

Easy going, tasty sheng with light-medium intensity minerality, fresh green herbaceous scents and flavors. The bitterness (say, compared to the Menghai teas) is nicely round, integrated, and noticeable on the sides of the tongue, while sweetness and greens dominate on the top. And there’s a delightful but faint floral flavor note that I haven’t noticed yet in other shengs from Farmerleaf, and which is also present in the lovely fragrance lingering in the cha hei. I expect this is from the terroi...

A beautiful autumn tea, I love everything about this: mineral bitterness, huigan, and best of all: the tea energy, alert, calm, and good feeling. The big leaves are wonderful for grandpa-style, but gongfu reveals the foresty rock flavors in greater detail. Just like last year, this tea is substantial yet mellow, straightforward, and delicious.

Honestly one of my favourite tea tasting moments. You can push and push and push this tea at high temperatures and it never gets stale or boring. It has so much structure and richness in taste. Deep huigan and very uplifting cha qi. It is my first farmer leaf tea experience so I can not wait to try the other ones that I have ordered.

This is also my favorite tea. Her beauty shows on the “mid-pallette” (as wine lovers call it). She fills the mouth with a very strong yet gentle presence that has an incense like fragrance. Very long finish with lovely huigan. Don't miss out on this. It would be a good value at $400 per cake in my view.

Very rich, green aromas, both with the dry and rinsed leaves. The material is very clean and healthy looking, as always. Wonderful to wake up to. This tea does not take long to get going. Pleasantly intense flavors in the first few steeps. Very balanced minerality and sweetness, tied together with the lovely herbaceous, floral greens. A great example of what Farmerleaf does so well in their processing: Bringing the flavor of the tree and terroir to the forefront. The Jingmai blends are a really ...

9g tea leaves, 150ml steeps. Dry leaves are light green herbaceous aroma. The rinsed leaves bring out more intensity and some nice hoppy bitterness scent. First steep is light and welcoming, but has all the elements you’d expect from this region: balanced minerality and luscious green flavors. Bitterness and astringency is present but much less intense than other Menghai sheng. So if you find Lao Man E (for example) overwhelming, this might be your Menghai sheng. Second and third steeps are more...

Apricot, honeysuckle, hints of tobacco, a silky mouthfeel with little to no bitterness or astringency, nice huigan, and a stately but potent cha qi. Some limestone and lemongrass in the finish as the session progresses. This is fantastic now, and has an underlying strength that I suspect would age reasonably well, at least to the middle aged state. Really nice offering. A very different perspective on menghai area tea.

I've had a couple of weeks with this tea and we have become good friends🌞 A very fragrant tea with dry leaf and strongly so when first wet. Pleasent sweetness with a subtle taste of bitter tannins, just an undertone not overpowering. Mouth feel is on the thicker side for me and a very calming effect I have found. Very good if you want a relaxing session. Not a fussy tea, although I keep the infusions below 30 seconds, I think it will respond well to however you like to brew in your gaiwan/teapot...

Dry leaf aroma: super fragrant the moment it’s unwrapped. Strong dried apricot aroma. Wet leaf aroma: dried apricots, jasmine flowers, grass clippings, some earthiness Tasting notes: intense jasmine florals, dried apricot sweetness that lingers in your throat, some grassiness on later steeps. Very little bitterness or astringency, though there is some drying mouthfeel when pushed. Overall, this tea is very tasty and elegant, but still easy to drink on a daily basis. I got the full cake on a...

8g, about 150ml per steep. The dry leaves smell fresh, green, herbaceous, and inviting. The rinsed leaves much more intensely so. This is a loose comparison with yesterday’s 2025 Hekai session. The first flash steep is light but there is a portent of lovely green herbaceousness and light floral bitterness. A lovely fragrance lingers in the cha hei. As expected, more intensity in the next couple of steeps, but an overall softness still governs the session. The flavors seem a little more sophistic...

Lovely tea! I would absolutely buy it again. Floral smell, in the cup. I didn't notice any bitterness. Tasting notes of honey and caramel. Very round and smooth flavor in the mouth. My wife has a strong sense of taste and she enjoyed the tea. I bought a whole cake and I am excited about it.

Trip was amazing , we can’t stop talking about it and sharing our experience . It was magical to be few days on the different mountains with people who love their tea forests and have skills passed from grand parents how to take care of the leaves to make delicious tea. We were able to make tea ( this was my dream ) did a lot of tea tastings and had great food with famillies . I ve heard about smell of fresh withering leaves but now experience it and sweet aroma will stay with me forever . I ...

The first time I drank this tea, it seemed a bit flat-- a broad range of flavor, but nothing that stood out or pulled me in. Now, around two months later, and using different water and teaware, I am finding much more coherence. The main tone is peach or apricot, but it is the kind of flavor that gets stuck in the mouth and not just an evaporating fragrance. With very little bitterness, this would be a good tea with which to introduce my friends. Great value!

This tea is as described: soft mouthfeel, minimal bitterness, and wonderful body feel. It’s a nice counterpoint to some more aggressive teas. The flavors are lovely, lightly vegetal with citrus, aromas of peaches. The tea energy is the best of any tea I’ve yet tried, it’s meditative and relaxing, fills me with good feeling.

Very unique tasting sheng. I have not heard of Fa Zhan He area before ordering this tea. I'm not a puerh expert guru or anything like that, but I have tried a couple hundred young raw puerhs throughout my tea journey, and despite this, I feel this tea has a distinct and unique profile from a lot of other sheng. The wet leaf smells very similar to orange juice. Part of me wonders how this could be a possibility, as this is clearly not purple varietal. Another part of me thinks it's best not to ...

I've tried four farmer leaf sheng teas so far, and they are all very elegant, structured, and have a common style. This one is the Gua Feng Zhai, YiWu at the Laotian border. The dry scent is green, herbal, hoppy, and inviting. The wet scent is the same, but subdued. This tea shines in two ways: the lingering mouth feel and the aforementioned structure and elegance. Much like a good dry champagne. There's a tingly bitterness, astringency, and a hint of herbal sweetness. The cha qi is disciplined ...

February 24, 2026. Beautiful day for tea (or anything)! Dry leaves are handsome and have a nice fresh sheng puerh scent. Milder dry scent than some of the other Farmerleaf teas. The dominant flavors are initially classic sheng bitterness and classic sheng vegetal (“spinach-y”), with the bitterness dominating in the early steeps but achieving a very nice balance by the third steep. Feels nice in the mouth, but more palate-focused. A very nice tea whose later steeps (8+) provide nice, mild, thoug...

The fragrance is pretty basic—nothing particularly stands out, but it does have the familiar floral scent common in most young sheng. The first infusion reveals a Yiwu sweetness (though a Jinggu tea), accompanied by a soft mouthfeel and medium-thick texture. From the second brew, the huigan shows up and continues to build throughout the session. The aftertaste is delightful, with notes of stone fruit and flowers lingering pleasantly. The tea has a good body feel, leaning more towards relaxing ...

I'm already very pleased just by the smell of dry leaves in a warm teapot. Amazing! It immediately slows me down and grabs my attention. I would say i really feel the deep forest when smelling and also when drinking it. Later infusions surprisingly reveals more ,,green hoppy" notes. Soft and very pleasant easy drinking tea. I like it a lot!

This is my first Puer from farmerleaf and it’s delicious! The dry leaf is very fragrant, smelling like a cool fern forest and apricots. Wet leaf smells similar to dry but more intense. The tasting notes I’m getting are: some intensity in the early steeps, with some cool fern forest, apricots, freshly shredded tree bark, minerality, mint, some florals, good huigan. The mouthfeel is intense early on, leading to refreshing, cooling, and juicy on later steeps. It makes me feel happy and energized...

The perfect cuppa for an early (06:30am)summer morning in the garden. Sometimes I just want a large mug of tea without having to resort to the"normal stuff", and don't want to break out the Gong Fu set. I brew 20 second infusions in my clay teapot and away I go. Very sweet and gentle feel with a very mild bitterness and a honeyed flavour to my taste at least. Just a very drinkable and enjoyable brew. I usually quaff a couple of big mugs and listen to the birds singing. Great value as well.

9g/170ml. My experience is pretty much the same as the currently posted reviews and the website description. In a nutshell, an excellent price to value and a quality daily drinker. It is fun to drink, and at the price I paid for the cake, I can brew it strong like I prefer without hesitation. It is not a weak tea though. The dry leaves are nicely fragrant and green, the wet leaves are not so fragrant, but a visual inspection reveals that the leaves were high-quality from the tree, and carefully ...

This is the best ripe tea i have tried, not that i am an expert at all. It is very delicate and soothing. Sometimes ripe tea feels “hot” in my mouth but I think the minerals cool the flavor down in a balanced way. It definitely coats my mouth, which I’ve never felt from a ripe tea. I really like it.

A lovely ripe pu-erh that has characteristics of old raw pu-erh. Beautiful tea in my opinion, quite varied in experience across multiple brews. The flavor spectrum is quite rich and leaks from raw into ripe and back. The purchased sample was great, but a whole cake in my stash would be even better :)

Very nice ripe pu erh! Still has quite a strong fermentation smell on the dry leafs but the wet leafs already don't present that smell anymore. Quite interesting as I haven't tried such a young ripe yet. The texture is very smooth and oily. Tastewise this one is quite sweet and reminiscent of fruits. I think this ripe will develop very nicely.

Finally my first Farmer Leaf tea! Got this one from the French site while still waiting for the main order from China to arrive. Now I expected this to be good, although I'm not a fine connoisseur of puerhs, still pretty recent to the world of tea so I might lack in experience. It's a very sweet tea, quite aromatic with hinders of orchid, flowery overall but with an earthy side to it. The autumn leaves are present as well. The sweetness comes very strong at the third/fourth infusion and it remai...

Excellent tea, I fell in love with The Jingmai Gushu last summer, then decided to order a cake. This is phenomenal tea, excellent mouthfeel and cha qi, the tea lasts for many infusions and has the trademark Jingmai Floral taste and lovely gentle astringency. I’ve also gotten a few samples and two of the sample bags were filled to the brim (double the amount that is intended) with tea, thank you so much! I’ll definitely be back to buy more tea, you guys are great! :)

Grapefruit, tonka bean, hints of malt and tobacco, a little tartness, super juicy dried blueberry finish. Approachable but complex. Steeps very well grandpa style. Reminiscent of Oriental Beauty but this is its own thing. A really fantastic tea and great value. Lovely tin. This is a slam dunk in my opinion.

This ripe hits the spot for me like no other tea. It has an incredibly deep and powerful feeling, with rich flavors and aromas of leather, dark chocolate, and forest wood. The warming feeling is strong, filling me with a powerful, but calming energy. Boiling after gongfu gave me a delicious syrup, definitely worthwhile as the description says. Trying today in a thermos, it brought out the rich chocolate woodsiness. This tea is a treasure.

A lovely gentle tea that stands up to multiple brews. It is quite an "easy" tea, not sensitive to brewing time. My favorite way to brew it is to break off a small "chunk" and not break up the layers - they will gradually unfold as you steep them over and over, so always exposing fresh leaf surface. I stick to a lazy 15-20 seconds throughout the session. The tea is golden/spring green, fragrant with a delicate grassy scent, mild floral, dried herb. The flavor follows suit, subtle and deliciou...

A very enjoyable tea! 100C 45 second wash, 4-6 seconds for 6 steeps, 10-15 seconds/steep until finished. Slight fishiness in aroma, that fades in the first few steeps. Mostly woody and sweet. Mild plum. Light body. Subtle astringency that lightly grows with steeps. Very light coffee sour/bitter, brings nice balance to the sweet wood notes. Light grassiness develops after steep 7/8. Smooth. Warming. Very nice with honey but absolutely not needed.

Very pleasant tea. For me reminiscent of Gooseberry and Heather Honey on the nose. Sweet cinnamon and a touch of cologne and tobacco to the taste. A pleasant undertone of slight bitterness and a taste that lingers. I enjoy short 30 second infusions, my preferred method . Incredible body feel. Similar to the cake from last year, but with rich, fresh vegetal doughiness from the fresh moacha. Very nice. Evolving aromas : from wild flowers in early brews, to nutty sweet white chocolate in later brews. But with this nice aromas, we also get a strong « classic taste » with vegetal bitterness, subtle tabaco, leather, and animal taste. This «  classic taste » is in this era represented more in bad quality tea in my opinion ( for fresh, unaged puerh ). so I am glad to discover this tea, that reminds me of my early puerh tastings ( super random puerhs ) but with quadruple amount of qual...
