Robert Harwood's I Went Down to St James Infirmary provides fascinating detail woven into an enlightened narrative. I learned lots reading this, and enjoyed it. Appreciated the informative footnotes, the appendices, and the graphics (eg, sheet music, contemporaneous dance promo fliers, photos) and two indexes. Harwood sets the bar nice and high for future musical-historical researchers.

This deep dive into "St. James Infirmary" has more twists and turns than a mystery story. And Harwood has mastered the material in a way that leads the reader on a revelatory journey through music, culture, and history. It's a goldmine of information with a fascinating cast of characters. The definitive statement on the subject — and a very entertaining read to boot.

What a beautifully designed and entertaining book...on all accounts! I'm old enough to remember seeing these records and buying them from the shops back in the day. It's about time that someone immortalized TOQ in such fine fashion. Great customer service at Genius Books as well. I couldn't be happier with my purchase, and with the overall experience! Buy this book now!!!

I've heard some negativity surrounding the book so I decided to check it out. Well-written, informative account of an unsolved murder. Ladonna's passion for this case is palpable. this book is a must read especially if you are from fort smith, arkansas like I am. this case has haunted me and so many others. I believe ladonna Humphrey will find justice for Melissa.

There are books that change your worldview when you read them. This is one such book. A remarkable tale of corruption, ineptitude, and downright deceitfulness from people we entrust to do the right thing. To uphold the law. This book is so well written. It takes you on a journey of murder, rape, and burglaries. And a wrongful conviction of an innocent man, who spends in remaining days in prison while the real culprit continues to create mayhem. You think you can trust the police and district att...

I originally balked at the price, but finally gave in, and glad I did! If you're an old bootleg collector like me, you will love pouring over this book. I've been glad to confirm that some of mine are likely originals, some second pressings and some I'm still not sure of. Soft cover doesn't bother me a bit, mine arrived promptly and in great shape.

I love this book. I collected these records for quite a few years. The satisfaction was always in the hunt for them. I knew this was going to be a soft cover. I didn’t care about that or the price, it’s the content that’s the most important part. Thank you for this history book. Maybe some additional investigation about the other labels would make a great volume two. It was well worth the wait.

This book is simply fantastic. Having been in this world since the early seventies, I can hardly tell with how much interest I was waiting to get it. It's simply amazing, all the TMQ releases are fully described, with source of the recordings, and the photos of the first pressing, master tapes, even some metal masters. You can have at last full information on release dates and various details of these records. All photos are in full color with high quality printing. And the text is also amazing,...

This book is great! If you are interested in this book, you know the label, and may have some of their records in your collection. Now here's the story. I got the hardback, and it's beautifully done. The hardback was always a limited edition, so let's be thankful that there is an open edition. Worth every penny. Lots of photos, including the complete TMOQ discography. You can't go wrong with this book if you have any interest in rock and roll records!

Billy The Liquor Guy is another addition to becoming one of my favorite books, it pulled me in from the start. In truth, when I started this one, I immediately knew I would be giving a 5 star rating. It was one I couldn’t put down and never disappointed me. I kept thinking what else could happen and something always did. Sometimes so effortlessly and definitely unexpected. The suspense increased throughout the book and kept me at the edge of my seat. There was so much going on and I certain...

Thank you Paul for being so brave and thank you to all those who supported you and other victims. This story needs world attention. The cover-ups and deceptions over decades, all shrouded behind the walls of the most powerful organisation is reprehensible, but the suffering of the child victims is unimaginable. How this was perpetrated on children cannot be comprehended. Pell and everyone else who knew need to accept responsibility, that is for sure. Thank you to Monique Patterson for bringing t...

What a book. Haunting yet brave. If you’re a fan of true crime, it’s a must read — but it’s not for the faint of heart. This subject matter is dark and intense, but it’s all in the name of justice for Melissa Witt.

This book covers to many angles! Story of a murdered girl. Story of LaDonna's journey to find her killer. Story of two detectives dedicated to solving this case. This book is so well done. I read it one sitting. I could not put it down. This is a must-read for anyone who loves true crime.

This is a fantastic read. The writing is really good. The details of the forensic science are explained while keeping an interesting storyline going. It is a heart-breaking True Crime tale. This crime should have brought The Golden State Killer to justice well before he was caught. Instead an innocent man was sentenced to death, purposely. A “not-to-be-missed” book.

This book is the Bible on St James Infirmary from myriad perspectives. It is a vital inspiring resource for my many musical performances and arrangements of this classic song, including my recording with Yo-Yo Ma and The Silk Road Ensemble and Rhiannon Giddens.

The Girl I Never Knew: Who Killed Melissa Witt? is a work of non-fiction in the true crime and thriller subgenres by LaDonna Humphrey. As the title suggests, the work focuses on the mysterious circumstances surrounding the death of Melissa Witt, and the answers to her untimely death seem to lie within the Ozark National Forest, Arkansas. Humphrey’s vested interest in unmasking Melissa’s killer is impressive for her sheer determination and attention to detail, but also remarkable considering that...

This book is a page turner! So many angles to consider! As a transgendered woman, I appreciate LaDonna stepping up to advocate for someone who cannot advocate for themselves. All women deserve a fierce ally like LaDonna.

The title and cover intrigued me so I purchased a copy. And holy mother of God! First, LaDonna Humphrey is brave. She really put herself out there in this book and the story is fascinating. I can’t recommend this enough. Read this book! I’m telling all of my people to order it right now. LaDonna is the best Michelle McNAmara. Wow!

Such a cool book. We finally get the story behind the original rock and roll bootleggers who started a cottage industry and pushed commercial record companies to give the fans more of what they wanted from their favorite artists in the way of live concerts and rare demos and outtakes. The photography of these iconic albums is beautiful.

Just got this for my birthday (THANKS Marc Time) & have been into boots since reading the Rolling Stone article in ‘69 & soon getting Great White Wonder, Kum Bak, Get Back To Toronto, Liv-R, etc, even running a record store in Berkeley (‘79-82 with Marc Time) that stocked all the boots. As someone who’s lived in Pasadena for over 30 years, I spotted a small error in the beginning that I guess you have to be in Pasadena & into music to have caught - 2 different radio stations with similar...

This is a truly fantastic piece of work and dedicated research for which the authors and publishers deserve our eternal gratitude. TMQ discs are fondly remembered by myself and fellow vinyl junkies here in the UK. I managed to bag two Grateful Dead albums in a Manchester record store in 1973 and I still have them. A Pig's Tale is a hefty tome and would have benefited from a hard cover bit is still an essential purchase.

Very enjoyable book about a favorite topic. Adds another perspective to an elusive and secretive story. Some repetition in the book, some incorrect information and inconsistent use of pseudonyms. Many of the players have been identified elsewhere, and the story might have been more enlightening had it been more carefully researched and more scholarly written. Although a fun story, the writing is fairly amateurish and simplistic. Still, it shines additional and sometimes new light on a subject, r...
