Birthday gift for my 9-year-old grandson, who has taken an interest in artistry, and exhibits some natural talent. When I was a pre-teen, I received a tray of 40 watercolor pencils of famous Swiss manufacture and they truly stimulated my illustrative predilections. Now 50 years later, when I searched for a similar item for my grandson I found the Castle Arts product in 120 colors, no less, and so much more affordable! My grandson is thrilled with his beautiful tray of beautiful colors.

I love my pencils. I especially love the fact that Castle Art has created sets specifically for certain types of art. I am learning Urban Sketching and when I saw the Urban Sketching set I had to jump on it. Awesome!

I love my Soft Touch pencils. They go down smooth and blend well. I can use a colorless blending pencil or a colorless pen. They both work well. I also love the fact the colors are labeled as I am color blind. Labels make creating so much easier. The only thing I would suggest is please consider selling pencils in singles. This would help when certain colors need to be replaced and would cut out the need to buy whole sets for one color.

I love the castle arts gold coloring pencils!!! They’re smooth and buttery they lay down so nice. I’m a heavy colorer. I love the look of my pictures that I have colored with these pencils!!! The only thing I don’t like is that I wish there was open stock for the gold coloring pencils!!! Other wise these are great coloring pencils and I would definitely recommend them to anyone!!!

Overall, the pencils work well and blend nicely. The work shown was done using the pasteltint set and other Castle Arts pencils. The only concern I have is that a few pencils are showing crack lines on the barrel at the point end and as such need a lighter touch when using or they break. It has been on maybe a dozen so far out of the combined pasteltint, metallic, seascape and botanical sets. Overall these seem to be good pencils with a reasonable price point. I have used prismacolor since high-school art class for the consistency of pencil "lead". These are a pretty close comparison for the soft lead of prismacolor at a lower price point. The case is very convenient although I moved the way it was sorted by color then shade to make my ocd happy since I didn't quite understand the method in which they where sorted from the factory.

These pencils are fabulous it's like painting but you don't have to wait for it to dry or dry out. The colors are bright and you can get at least 3 color tone from 1 pencil so it's like having 360 colors instead of 120. Love them!

I am a professional watercolor artist and thought I'd give these colored pencils a try. The color selection is excellent and the quality of the pencils very nice. I decided to get the fabric, zip-up case rather than the tins for easy of travel and I'm happy that I did. I have Prismacolor and Faber-Castell Polychromos colored pencils and the Castle brand compares well especially given the price.

The tin container was dented in the middle thereby the lid would not close properly. My pencils kept on falling out of the tin container. I was forced to use two rubber bands to keep the lid close…quite unattractive to look at and still would not close properly. I feel this being dented is not part of what I have paid for. This my third order from Castle Arts and I have been satisfied except for this one.

These are not "good for the money", these are just excellent! The piece I've included is my first test with colored pencils, watercolor and gouache, all from Castle. Haven't used gel pens as a medium...have used gel pens in the past for writing messages on greeting cards etc. but tried these and have never loved a pen as much as these...so easy, gliding with color that is outstanding! And can't believe the array of colors! Will be ordering more and not only getting them for myself but as gifts for family and friends. Can't wait to try them on my art projects!
