I came up with this concept about 8 yrs or so and using a egg stand and drilling a hole in it and gluing a #8 cork I came up with the idea. Of course the artwork is a sublimation process on a metal disc with an epoxy doming resin. As you can see here is the final result. Even dipping the egg stands in a stain is a nice way to give the wood grain some gloss. I always tell my customers to "Put a cork in it" when I'm making and selling these at wine events and craft shows.

Love the 1/2 inch cork underlay. I was going to use plywood as the underlay. Cork was not only less expensive, it was so much easier to install...easy to cut & no nailing. I'm installing new flooring in 2 more rooms & will be using cork underlay again for those rooms.
