This tsuba feels tough, and it's well made - it's even and flat; I bought a similar one a few years ago from another place and it's a bit crooked. The part I like the best about this tsuba is the hole size - it's may not be enough for shinai with extra-thick tsuka but I think it should fit all shinai with regular tsuka (but don't quote me, I haven't used all the regular size shinai in the world). I am new to Kendo, I started because my son wanted to do this and joined in. After a few months decided on the Myrmidon bogu because of the extra padding as I suffer from quervain syndrome and tendinitis in my hands which makes them extra sensitive. I can't compare to other sets as its my first one, but I would say that you feel the hits for sure, but not once have I felt pain, at worst if someone hits you hard it stings. I now have four of these white kendogi (this one was for my son who grew out of his previous one) and am very happy with them. They are suitable for all types of weather (not too hot in summer and not too cold in winter) and really quite durable. Because of the very reasonable price-point, I am not too concerned with treating them 'nicely' and just want them to be crisp and clean for every keiko.
