I have only used it once to hold a 3" x 5" x 1/4" part for a 1/8" depth engraving. I only held the part by 1/16" this proved out to be very good. I have some up coming jobs where I will run 2 parts a a time using the 2 modular vises. I am sure this new set up will work out great. I can see where this set will work much better than the ole heavy conventional vises.

Fantastic upgrade to the Carvera to make it significantly better at machining metals. Primarily, it allows you to use coolant oils that would otherwise get absorbed into the stock MDF bed and warp it badly.
Just note that the smaller MDF spoilboards that come with the Carvera don't really work with this new bed since the hole patterns don't align. Additionally, the modular vices are great for metals but warp thin plastic sheets when it grips them so you can't use the vices for those.

Last year, we purchased a fixture plate for our first Haas and quickly found out how useful it was for our machining needs. We then added Mod Vises and plug jacks to our SMW tool purchases. Recently, we added a new Haas VF4SS to the shop. Without hesitation, we purchased an SMW fixture plate set, mod vises, plugs, etc., for this new mill putting it to work right away. I found this 2" thick piece of 6061 T6 at the scrap yard and turned it into a fixture plate that sits across two Pierson Pro Pallets. 832 holes if I remember correctly. I started using it right away and filled those holes up with junk, what a headache! The plugs are a must!

I have an old VF4 that I equipped with two Pierson pallets. I machined two plates with Pierson features on the bottom and Saunders pin/bolt pattern on the top. It's proving to be very versatile, accurate, and not too expensive! I can mount a double mod vise on each pallet and either have four separate locations or span the distance between them for holding long pieces. I recently machined some features in some 29" long pieces of aluminum square tubing, worked perfectly.

Can be a bit cumbersome, but for how compact and how well it holds parts, the hobby vise is still 5 stars. No parts thrown out, after around a dozen parts.
I'm super happy that I was able to get the extra parts to make mine a dual station. I was broke, but needed a vise. I had a 3D printed one that I was using, but it wasn't very square. So I bought the single station a month or so back, then just bought everything to make it dual. Much easier setup this way. If they bring it back, I suggest it...

I really like that the countersunk indexing holes allow for extremely repeatable stock positioning if one of the jaws is static, so I am able to switch to different size stock without updating my origin basically ever.
